A few days ago, a young-ish mom and her young daughter were waiting to meet Minnie Mouse. Her daughter was holding a beat up Care Bear, whose ear was falling off. I smiled and said "Hi Princess! Wow, that bear looks well-loved." She said "yeah, it's my brother's." I said "How nice that he gave it to you! What a good present." Her mom looks at me with tears in her eyes and says "It was his bear, and this was his Make A Wish trip. He passed away 2 weeks before we were supposed to go. We decided to come for him, and bring his bear so we would have a piece of him with us." OH GOD. I started to tear up and said "I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you have a wonderful trip, for him."
I posted the story on Facebook, and a friend of mine who hangs out with Alice read and it and wrote the next day to tell me she "spent like 45 minutes with them inside (and outside), she showed me pics of the little boy smiling! And the little girl was the cutest ever!!!! Alice even got her a huge Cheshire cat as a gift! She LOVED coloring and even gave me the biggest hug and kiss goodbye! Thanks for posting the story so I knew about it!!!!!" Ahh, the power of social media used for good.
On my last day off, I went to Magic Kingdom. I didn't find anything at Property Control-I'm still searching for the perfect t-shirt for my Dad. After the futile search, I went to the park to meet Ariel and Prince Eric so I could get them to sign my Ariel purse. Prince Eric remembered me! I then got a fastpass for Town Square Theatre, where I met Belle, Cinderella and Rapunzel! I got to kiss Mickey Mouse on his nose in front of Minne; something I had wanted to do for awhile. Belle blew me a kiss during the 3:00 parade, I got a surprise fastpass for Dumbo, and finally got to ride the refurbished Big Thunder Mountain rollercoaster! It was a great day.
Epcot's celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, so there was a cast party! I met Mickey, Minnie and Goofy in 80's clothing, ate lots of free food (pasta salad, green beans with tomatoes, beans and rice, really good bread twice-mashed potatoes) and ice cream (I had 2 Mickey bars and a strawberry bar), watched an Epcot Iron Chef competition, and saw Mickey dance to "Cotton Eyed Joe". I like that Disney makes magic for their cast members.
I can't believe it's already September! I got into the Candlelight Processional, my first rehearsal is on Tuesday! I can't wait, I haven't sung in a choir since high school. Also, the Halloween parties start next week! I'm going twice, on the 11th and 25th. My Mom made me a fantastic Wendy dress for my birthday, and I can't wait to wear it. I'm also getting ready to apply for some Disney Professional Internships. My program ends in January, and I don't like seeing this gray fog when I start thinking about after January 2, 2013.
