Students are expected to follow certain guidelines in the housing complexes, and the Disney Company has set up certain policies. Roommates are assigned by gender and age.
If a student is under 21 they are placed in a “Wellness Apartment”, or one where no alcohol is allowed. If alcohol is found, you get termed and sent home, no questions asked.
All of the apartments are non-smoking in all areas.
Disney provides buses to work (the 4 parks, water parks, and Downtown Disney), the mall and to Wal-mart. However, buses can be slightly unreliable, and a trip to Wal-mart could take more than 2 hours. Hope you like wandering the aisles. If you can, I'd bring a car.
Chatham is roughly 10-15 minutes via bus from Vista Way. Chatham is right across the street from the Cast Member Only recreation park (Mickey's Retreat). The recreation park is a great place to rent a paddle boat, have a barbeque, play soccer, or just hang out by the lake.
There are laundry facilities, pools, mailboxes, box/parcel/present pick-ups at front office, vacuum rentals, community events and Internet/cable hookups within the apartments.
Furniture is also provided except for bedding, towels, computer and television.
It was easy to catch the bus places by following the route listings they gave us. It was a hop, skip and a jump to the waiting area outside the front office for the bus.
The security is very good. We had a colored ID that listed what complex we lived at with our name and photo. We always had to show it to security before being allowed through the gates. We also could not have overnight outside visitors, however; we could sign in visitors for the day so we could have family and friends over.
From what I've heard, read, and seen; here are the pros and cons:
Pros of Vista Way: Parties! Hot tubs! There's a Walgreen's litereally across the road, along with Starbucks, Wendy's and Chick-a-fil. The bus hub is right there!
Cons of Vista Way: Parties (there's parties in every complex)! Oldest. None of the apartments have balconies or porches. 3 bedroom apartments only have 2 bathrooms.
Pros of Chatham Square: New-ish. Right across from Mickey's Retreat. A 5 minute walk from the Commons. Good bathrooms.
Cons of Chatham Square: The closest grocery store is a 15-minute walk away, where there is also a Walgreens. Crappy gym. The walk-in closets are attached to the bathrooms, mostly.
Pros of Patterson Court: Newest. Lovely pool. Good gym. Pretty kitchen.
Cons of Patterson Court: The closest grocery store is a 20-minute walk away, where there is also a Walgreens. You have to walk to Chatham's bus stop, which is about a 5 minute walk.
All I know about the Commons is that each apartment has its' own washer and dryer. However, only ICPs can live there. There's also lots of fun parties there.
Did I miss anything?
